Phonics Tutoring in Fareham and Online – Miss Lucy Tutoring

Private Tutoring To Build Confidence With Reading And Spelling From An Early Age

Expert Phonics Tuition For Those Crucial Early Years

Hello, I’m Miss Lucy, a qualified primary school teacher with more than ten years of experience. I provide phonics tutoring for children in Fareham, Portsmouth, Southampton, and online across the UK.

Phonics is at the heart of learning to read and spell. It gives children the tools to decode words, blend sounds, and become confident, independent readers. Some children pick it up quickly, while others need a little more practice and support. My role is to make sure every child builds a strong foundation for reading — and to do so in a way that is fun and engaging.

Why Phonics Matters

Phonics isn’t just about recognising letters and sounds. It underpins so much of what children do at school, including:

  • Reading fluently with confidence.

  • Spelling and writing accurately.

  • Developing vocabulary and comprehension.

When phonics clicks, children unlock the ability to enjoy stories, access the wider curriculum, and feel more confident in themselves. Early support can make all the difference.

Signs Your Child May Benefit from Extra Support

Parents often come to me because they notice things like:

  • Struggling to sound out or blend words.

  • Relying on guessing instead of decoding.

  • Finding spelling particularly challenging.

  • Losing confidence or avoiding reading altogether.

If this sounds familiar, phonics tutoring could help your child get back on track.

My Approach to Phonics Tutoring

Every child is unique, so I adapt my lessons to their stage, personality, and learning style. I use a multi-sensory approach that combines reading, writing, games, and interactive activities. This helps children stay engaged and makes learning memorable.

Above all, I aim to create a calm and encouraging environment where children feel confident to try, make mistakes, and improve. Many parents tell me their child not only makes progress, but actually starts to enjoy reading again.

Local and Online Tutoring

I work with families for at-home and small group tutoring in Fareham, Portsmouth, and Southampton, but thanks to online tutoring, I can also support children across the UK and even overseas. Online lessons are flexible and interactive, making them a viable alternative to in-person support.

I’ve always had a special interest in phonics and early literacy. Over the years, I’ve supported many children to move from hesitant readers to confident ones. Seeing that “lightbulb moment” when a child realises they can read independently is one of the most rewarding parts of my work.
